About Me
I am a senior in Cesar Chavez High School who is in AP art. I have been doing all through middle school up until now and plan to keep practicing. I have been stuck drawing anime styled drawings until I pushed myself into finding my own style with it. I will continue to grow as an artist and experiment with different types of mediums and continue to find a style best suited for me. About My Work My Portfolio consists of historical women in the Bible who I later turned into large pieces of artwork, exhibiting these women through my eyes and why they are important to me. It was important for me to achieve different layers and borders through my art where they are each unique to the story. Including their own personal symbol from their story was important to convey why and what we can learn from them. Materials such as copic markers, colored pencils, pens, cardboard and watercolor have been experimented with throughout my investigation. Throughout my investigation pieces, I have found myself experimenting with different mediums and styles and how I can make it the next piece better. Each artwork has a a symbolic meaning to who they are , why they are important to me and what can I learn from them. Layering different things to create each piece was a fun way to express and add more to their story all in one drawing. Capturing different personalities was a challenge I wanted to take on with different faces and poses. Artist Statement I was born into a family who have been Jehovah witnesses for while and naturally I received bible study and was expected to attend meetings. For a while I would sit and listen to the different stories of the lesson and would draw them out in a notebook I would take. With my portfolio , I wanted to show my knowledge and point of view on some of the stories I learned. The process of creating my portfolio was challenging with having to come up with different art pieces with each women's individual personality and story. Re-reading their stories has helped my brainstorming process along with creating mockups. Jogging my memory with reading the bible helped me pick up on small details I messed which helped me come up with symbols for them. Mockups allowed me to brainstorm and experiment without having the fear of commitment and messing up. Allowing myself to experiment on a different piece of paper helped relieve stress and get idea flowing as kept adding on. My portfolio consists of different women in the Bible turned into individual art pieces. These pieces of art historically connect to many religious beliefs in different cultures. Individuals can interpret each piece differently and help those who do not know their stories learn a little about them. Some of these women such as Eve is historically known by a large amount of people, however , I focused on women who are not well known such as Dinah. These pieces can connect to individuals by learning their stories and their past mistakes. Culturally speaking, this portfolio is based on the stories in the Jehovah witnesses religion which connects people from different culture's who are in the same religion. Creating this portfolio has taught me patience and focus through the year helping me apply that into my other classes. Art has helped me become more calm and has changed my attitude in different ways positively. The patience I had working on this project has helped me become more patience with classmates and myself on homework or outside art related activities. Focus has been a struggle for me in the past before art, and now that i have been practicing it more, it has helped me focus on important things in my life. |
